Synopsis
Once upon a time, in Nazi occupied France....
Shosanna Dreyfus, after witnessing the execution of her family at the hand of Nazi Col. Hans Landa, narrowly escapes and flees to Paris, where she forges a new identity as the owner and operator of a cinema. Elsewhere in Europe, Lt. Aldo Raine organizes a group of Jewish soldiers to engage in targeted acts of retribution against the Nazis. Known to their enemy as "The Basterds," Raine's squad joins German actress and undercover agent Bridget Von Hammersmark and British commander Lt Archie Hicox on a mission to take down the leaders of The Third Reich. Fates converge under a cinema marquee, where Shosanna is poised to carry out a revenge plan of her own.
What The Critics Say
"Fassbender, stepping into the role of Hicox after Simon Pegg dropped out, seizes the opportunity gladly, injecting Hicox with the perfect blend of old-style movie-star charm.....and a tougher, rugged edge that deserves to make him a bigger star." - Empire
"Fassbender cuts a dashing figure, speaks with a wonderfully clipped accent and rather resembles Daniel Day-Lewis here." - Variety
